We at SugarHouse are committed to being a good neighbor for nearby businesses and residents, and to doing all we can to support and enhance the quality of life in the community. One example of our commitment is the extra effort we are taking to create an employee base and vendor roster that represents both the immediate community and the greater Philadelphia area as well.
In August 2007, we signed the Term Sheet for a Development Agreement with the City of Philadelphia that will govern the development of the SugarHouse Casino project. Chief among the terms of the agreement with the City is a commitment by SugarHouse Casino to address public safety concerns raised by our neighbors.
As part of the development agreement with the City, SugarHouse will:
- Fund costs such as 911 connectivity, EMS services to the casino, ambulance services, and security costs;
- Incorporate an environmental green roof design at the cost of $1 million;
- Make payments to the City totaling up to $67 million over 10 years;
- Relocate and expand the combined sewer outfall necessary to address previous flooding in nearby homes;
- Develop a comprehensive transportation management plan;
- Adopt an Economic Opportunity Plan to ensure participation in the development, construction and operations of the casino by minority and women employees and vendors; and
- Provide public access to the waterfront from our site.
